For The Love of Larry
I don't usually do this on my site but I am compelled to say something about this. The photo you see above is a child named Larry King, a gay teen from California that was murdered, his only crime was being a gay child. I have to ask the question, when for the love of God when will the hate stop, he had his whole life ahead of him, but he was struck down before his life even had a chance to begin. Children no matter their orientation must feel safe in their schools, homes and playgrounds. What if Larry were allowed to grow up and find the cure for A.I.D.S, a disease that is 100% fatal, or perhaps the cure for cancer. Maybe he could have became the president of the United States, a lawyer, or a great musician. We will never know Larry's full potential and because of that we are poorer as a society. Larry did nothing wrong, he was only a kid trying to make his own unique mark in the world. I still remember Matthew Sheppard, another courageous young man, minding his own business, a college student, like Larry his only crime was being gay, was senselessly and maliciously murdered in Wyoming. I mourn for both. They are my brothers in spirit, like all my gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender brothers and sisters, I do love them all. Just like my straight brothers and sisters as well. It only goes to prove we still have a ways to go before all of Gods children are loved honored and accepted. It is not a matter of law or the courts, their only function is to clean up the messes that people make, nor is it a matter of congress, state legislatures, governors, or even the president of the United States, it is us, it begins in the hearts and minds of all of us, that is where change begins. Like the struggles in Martin Luther King Jr. era when in April Four and shot rang out in the Memphis sky, free at last but they can't take my pride, In the name of love one heart in the name of love, he said in the words of an old Negro spiritual Free At Last, Free At Last, Oh God Almighty Free At Last. As for the writer of this post, I will continue to be a freedom fighter in this cause, and it is truth, honor, freedom, equality, and justice for all. The hate must stop, the fear must cease, because if it does not then there will be more Larry's, Matthew's, there will be more. Let the killing stop and let the healing begin. Thank You....More to Come.
